The Growing Importance of B2C in China E-Commerce

In Q1 2013, Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of China’s retail e-commerce B2C sector hit 120 billion RMB, accounting for 34.1% of the total online sales. B2C continued to become the driving force of China’s online shopping market given that in comparison to Q1 2012, the growth rate of the B2C sector was 96.5% while the same number for the C2C sector was 17.9%.

In terms of market players, Tmall led China’s online retailing market accounting for 51.3% of total sales of the B2C online retailing market.  JD(Originally 360buy)accounted for 17.5% while Tencent’s B2C market share increased to 6.8% due to the rapid development of 51buy.com, which had previously been acquired by Tencent.
